E-7 101A is leading the Southbound Limited in early Spring 1972 at the beginning of the Amtrak era.  The train, passing Funk's Grove, Illinois, still has a heavy weight GM&O baggage car and newly re-assigned Union Pacific cars.

Here is train No. 1, The Limited, approaching Roosevelt Road Southbound shortly after 11:00 A.M. on a weekend morning during the mid-1960's.   Note the heavyweight cars added for the higher weekend passenger volume.

GM&O's only E-8 unit is passing through Normal, Illinois just prior to making a stop at the Bloomington station.  Once again, this is Train No. 1, The Limited, the most often photographed GM&O passenger train due to it's mid-day schedule

Here is a rather tight telephoto view of F-3 809-B taken at the Bloomington, Illinois engine house.  The freight unit shows the simplified, though less photogenic solid maroon paint scheme that was used in later years on many of the F units.

E-7A 103 is just about to come to a halt at the Bloomington station after a quick trip down to Central Illinois from Chicago.  This unit appeared in several scenes in the movie In the Heat of the Night.

BMI Yards.jpg (38174 bytes)

The Bloomington, Illinois yard was still fairly active in the mid-1960's.  This famous location, (at least with rail historians) was the where George Pullman's first car, the Pioneer was constructed.  Unfortunately, nothing was done to preserve this historic facility, which would have made a fantastic railroad museum and given this rather bland city something to attract tourists.  Alco fans will recognize the two diesels visible in this photo.
